Wynn Hotel Las Vegas

interactive example

Please note, the visualization below actually uses more than 160 000 data points for one hourly view - this takes a bit of time to load.

We apologize but this visualization is really not mobile-friendly, please view and interact on desktop.

HOW TO USE THE VISUALIZATION

On the top of the visualization is the time of last snapshot of rates for each hotel.

Each dot is one OTA (one detected rate).

Hover on the chart to show rates by day and by rate source

Use mouse scroll on each of the axes to change the scale of the chart

Enable or disable daily view and point targeting using the chart sidebar

Reset to original view using the chart sidebar

Mouse scroll inside the chart to zoom in and out

COLOR CODE

Color code for the data visualization :

Red is always the direct hotel booking engine,

Blue = booking com,

Purple = expedia,

Green = tripadvisor,

Pink = hotels.com

***Grey*** are then all the other OTAs. You can see them name by name and value by value when you enable display on hover - via the sidebar.

WHAT ELSE IS IMPORTANT

WHAT EXACTLY DO WE SEE HERE?

The chart displays all the OTAs publicly displaying rates for this hotel, for every check-in date for the next six months from time of snapshot, for a standard room with two person occupancy (so some kind of baseline).

What's important is that you can see exactly, day by day, OTA by OTA, who is selling at which rate compared to others, and most importantly, to the direct booking engine rates. So it becomes easy to see that i.e. a certain OTA is undercutting you months down the line, thinking you can't catch them.

This data changes hour by hour, and you can see some pretty crazy stuff if you pay attention.

WHAT CAN I LEARN FROM LOOKING AT THESE SNAPSHOTS OF OTHER HOTELS?

Things become interesting when you check how others are structuring their pricing months down the line. Since we don't need any technical integration whatsoever, we can create snapshots of any hotel worldwide.

Meaning you can check your competitors rates, or anyone that you know is doing a good job managing demand and pricing - the learning opportunities are huge.

HOW OFTEN ARE RATE SNAPSHOTS CREATED?

In this case, we've set the data to refresh every hour on the hour. The timezone used is UTC, and the rates are displayed in USD at this time.

WHAT IF THERE'S NO RED DOT (HOTEL DIRECT RATE)?

Generally that means that we couldn't find the direct rate displayed at this particular time for that particular date. Primary reason is that no paid or organic links could be detected on Google or elsewhere. Usually it's because either there's no availability through the direct booking engine, or the connectivity of the hotel is so poor the links got completely de-ranked. The latter one is rare but happens sometimes.

IS THIS THE ONLY WAY THIS DATA CAN BE ACCESSED?

No, this is only our interpretation of the large datasets resulting from each rate snapshot. We of course can provide raw data as well, which over time shows amazing rate dynamics for many hotels, as seen in the 24h animated examples.

I WOULD LIKE A 1-ON-1 DEMO OF HOW ALL THIS WORKS, HOW CAN I BOOK A MEETING?

Yes absolutely, you can book using the widget on the bottom right of the site, or you can jump to our calendar here and select a time that fits.

DEMO VIDEO (2 min)

Rate Dynamics by the hour, month-long

We compiled all the rate scrapes of one month into a video - 648 individual scrapes (every hour of every day), each for 180 days forward looking.

Every OTA advertising the hotel on metasearches - the rates your guests see when they search any of these days.

This kind of data is not available anywhere else.

Some hotels have over 50 OTAs selling their rooms...

Sometimes more than half of those are selling under the direct rate...

"Leaky bucket" is an understatement.
